Impundulu is a 7 inch resin sculpture limited to 55 in glossy black.
Impundulu - “Lightning Bird” is a mythological vampiric bird creature from South African tribal folklore. It can take on many forms, one of which a rooster like bird the size of a human. Believed to be a servant of witch doctors, it seduces woman and can summon thunder and lightning from its wings and talons.

It started with a random lunch time sketch.
I liked the flow of the lines in the sketch so decided to explore a vector treatment.
The vector came out great, then wondered how it would look in 3D. All modeling done in Maya.
WIP - It was a lot of fun figuring out where everything sits in 3D space.

3D model final - The sides and back was not designed so I had to improvise continued the line flow all around the model.
Got a small scale test print made through Shapeways. This is to check for any print errors on the model.
Completed resin sculpture front. I sent the model to Mana Studios and they made a resin run of 55 in glossy black. It is 7 inches tall and pretty sexy if you ask me.
